- To assist in the preservation and promotion of the history of Erie County, its communities, and population
- To foster diverse groups, organizations and individuals in observing and commemorating the history of Erie County
- To promote opportunities to engage the community in historical events and commemorations
- To create educational opportunities and partnerships involving local and county history
- To help promote cultural and heritage tourism throughout the country
