Period 1: Economics

Weekly Schedule:

Week #1: July 15-17 Identify 
Review 2015 NHD theme, requirements & rubric, brainstorm topic ideas for the paper (have a working title of research paper by July 17th), outline paper and select worthwhile research websites.
COMPLETED!

Week #2: July 20-24 Research 
Begin the research process in earnest with vetted websites and create a working bibliography to refer to. Some students may be able to begin the writing process later in the week.

COMPLETED!!

Week #3: July 27-31 Writing
Begin the writing process in earnest with sources from week #2. Revise and edit the rough drafts of the research papers all week. 
COMPLETED!!!

Week #4: August 3-7 Revise 
Final revisions and create the annotated bibliography for research paper. Proofread and verify the 1500-2500 word count. Make appropriate annotations to bibliography.

COMPLETED!!

Week#5: August 10 & 11 Finish
Turn in completed research papers and grade them according to the rubric for final grades. All students will know their assignment grade and course grade before they leave on the 11th.

Economics Research Paper Outline:

Introduction (Thesis statement is here) (200-300 words)
  • Who are we talking about?
  • Why are they important? What is their legacy? Is it good or bad?
  • What is the time period? Current day? Historical context (what was going on during this time)
  • Where is the story/history happening?
  • Identify a central topic

Paragraphs # 2, 3, 4, 5 (or more if needed) Historical information on person related to the 2015 NHD Theme. Repeat this step as needed (300-500 words for each paragraph)
  • Expand on whom we are talking about. 
  • How did their experiences shape who they are? Schooling, Work, Interests, etc.
  • What is their role in society? Job, Occupation
  • Identify and elaborate on an idea(s) related to central topic
  • What is the historical context of their time period? What else is going on in the U.S. or World? Does this impact what they are doing? Explain.
  • Present information on why their legacy is good or bad? Is it up for debate? Has is all been good or bad?
  • Make personal or relevant connections when possible.

Conclusion (200-300 words)
  • Final analysis of topics
  • What did you learn about this topic
  • Why is this topic/person still relevant today?
  • What might the future of this topic be?
  • Make a declarative statement on the legacy, was it good or was it bad?
